Philosophy of Read Right

Read Right is a program that was developed by Dr. Dee Tadlock to help students to become stronger readers. This program has three main components; Excellent reading, Coached reading, and Independent reading.
Excellent reading uses prerecorded paragraphs and repetition to allow students to experience excellent reading in an artificial setting. This helps the brain to recognize excellent reading. When the brain understands excellent reading, it will beging to read more excellently on its own over time.
Coached reading is "cold" reading with the Read Right tutor to assist in making corrections to reading errors that occur. This component assists me in determining the progress a student has made by allowing me to hear them read without the assistance of the recorded reading. It also allows students to hear themselves read and recognize if their are making reading errors.
Independent reading allows students to read on their own from books that are leveled for them to ensure that they will not be struggling when reading on their own.
All components are important to the success of this program and to the student. If the program is followed correctly, the student will improve their reading skills and comprehension.

Grading System

Grades will be given based on a points system that considers; tutor time, independent reading time, and classroom assignments. Two points will be given per day (45 days) for tutoring and independent reading. Individual grades will be given for assignments and book reports. These grades will be entered into powerschool and averaged for a final grade in the class. Students must receive a passing grade in Read Right in order for them to receive credit for the course.

Levels in Read Right

In the Read Right program progress is determined in part by the students being promoted to a higher level. Once the students have reached their grade level, they will be allowed to drop the class, or continue in the class for credit.
