Starlab Portable Planetarium
The Starlab Portable Planetarium creates a unique learning environment for every level of eduation. The Starlab system consists of a silver fabric inflatable dome, a projector, a fan, and variety of projection cylinders. It has a diameter of 16', height of 12', and weight of 45 lbs. It can usually be set up in a gym, auditorium, or cafeteria.
The Starlab is checked out to schools with qualified staff who have attended the Starlab training. A rental fee is charged.
A kit (AV 520 Ast) includes curriculum-based materials assembled for use with astronomy lessons and with the Starlab portable planetarium.
Whales
Two sizes of inflatable walk-in whales are available to check out to use with students. A 20-inch floor fan brings the whales to life size. The whales are black plastic held together with duct tape.
From tail to nose, the large whale measures 68', which replicates a small adult blue whale. At the spout it is about 13' high; from front fin to front fin it is about 25' across.
The large whale may hold about 25 students for various activities, such as studying endangered animals and fish. The whales were sponsored by Project WILD, ND Game and Fish Department.

The teacher visitation program invites teachers from membership schools to visit another classroom teacher for professional staff development. The Teacher Center will reimburse school districts for the cost of a substitute teacher.
Funds are provided for eight visitations per year. Applications are accepted on a first come/first served basis.
