Comprehensive Evaluation Phase

Comprehensive Evaluation Phase

Who:
• Teachers with more than three years of satisfactory service who are demonstrating standards of effective teaching. A comprehensive evaluation will be completed once every three years.

Purpose:
• To support teacher-led self assessment
• To promote professional growth
• To enhance student learning
• To provide feedback on professional issues
• To focus on Balanced Scorecard initiatives

What:
• A formal self-assessment for teachers
• Identify components to be assessed
• Formal and Informal classroom observations to assess professional practices

Method:
• Teacher conducts self-assessment
• Teacher and administrator determine which components the teacher will be assessed on based on specific need or interest
• Formal observations by administrator with pre- and post-conferences
• Summative review written by administrator and teacher prior to March 15

Step1 - Self Assessment
Every third year, each teacher with more than three years of experience will participate in a comprehensive evaluation. Each teacher initiates this phase by completing the Professional Staff Self-Assessment.

Step2 - Identification
The teacher will review the Professional Self-Assessment with his/her supervisor. Using the Framework Identification Form (A2), the teacher and supervisor will determine the components to be assessed. The teacher will identify three components and the supervisor will identify two. They will also determine the methods of assessment, which will include a formal classroom observation.

Step3 - Pre-Observation
Prior to the formal classroom observation, the teacher and his/her supervisor will meet and complete the Pre-Observation Form(A3).



Step 4 - Observation

Step4 - Observation
While completing the classroom observation, the supervisor will complete the Level of Performance - Rating Sheets (A6, below). After completing the observation, the supervisor will complete the Performance Review (A4). In preparing the Performance Review, the supervisor should consider factors considered on the Framework Identification Form (A2) as well as the Pre-Observation Form. Other items or artifacts should also be included.
