Plan I - Induction Phase:
 Who: Library Media Specialists with less than four years of teaching experience in the Bismarck Public Schools
Purpose:- To ensure that the Bismarck Public School's standards for effective teaching are understood, accepted and demonstrated.
- To provide support for Library Media Specialists new to the Bismarck Public Schools.
- To provide accountability for decisions to continue employment.

- Reflection
- Self-Evaluation
Method:- Classroom observation with feedback
- Review of portfolio
- Discussion of reflection of professional practices
- At the end of third year developing professional development goals

Steps 1 & 2 apply to all years of the Induction Phase.

Step 1 - Documentation & Reflection
 The Library Media Specialists in their first three years of employment with Bismarck School District will familiarize themselves with the Library Media Frameworks for Professional Excellence. Supervisors, working with Library Media Specialists in the Induction Phase, will discuss and review the indicators and process to be used during the school year. Library Media Specialists in the Induction Phase will focus on specific domains from the Library Media Frameworks for Professional Excellence each year. Library Media Specialists will use the Professional LMS Self Assessment - Induction Phase (LC1) to help identify these domains. Using these forms, supervisors will assist Library Media Specialists in designing strategies that ensure an understanding of the Library Media Frameworks for Professional Excellence during the first year of Induction Phase.

Step 2 - Observation
 Supervisors will complete two formal observations- one before December 15 and the other before March 15. As with veteran Library Media Specialists, supervisors should employ the Pre-Observation Form (LC2), Level of Performance - Rating Sheet (below), the Performance Review (LC3) or an Improvement Plan (LC4).
Please note: when appropriate, Library Media Specialists may be assigned Individual Improvement Plans during all phases of the program, including the Induction and Professional Growth Phase.
